Project Management to Leadership – Role of Emotional Intelligence

With the changing business climate, the yardstick for measurement is the emotional competence of Project Managers and Leaders. As the project management profession continues to increase in complexity, there is a demand for Leaders. In today's changing business environment, Project Managers not only need to manage global, virtual and multi-cultural projects, but also establish a direction and align with the organization vision. Successful Leadership is a dynamic process requiring both cognitive and emotional competencies. The Globalization of workplace puts special premium on Emotional Intelligence for Project Managers.

This presentation addresses why Emotional Intelligence is an important skill required for excellence in Leadership. This presentation will examine the challenges/issues presented to Project managers and how emotional intelligence helps drive success. As a summary, this presentation outlines the Emotional Competence Framework as it is central to leadership.

Shobhna Raghupathy has led several technical & strategic projects over the past two decades from conception through execution. Responsible for various projects based in US, India, Brazil and London, she held technology consulting positions in the Telecommunications, Banking, HealthCare and Technology sectors.

As an architect of the Marketing program for PMI Atlanta, she served two terms as VP - Marketing and Promotions. Initiated Speaker's Bureau at the component level and represented PMI Atlanta as the ambassador at 2007 Asia-Pacific Global Congress. Shobhna has been involved in speaking engagements at Delta Airlines, Bellsouth (New AT&T), AIU and King & Spalding via Speaker's Bureau. She is also a frequent speaker at PMI Atlanta's Professional Development Day (PDD) & PMI Global Congress. Shobhna has been an active participant of the North American and Asia Pacific Leadership Meetings and Global Congresses for the past several years. As a global project management professional she recently graduated from Leadership Institute's Global Master's program in Leadership.
